A walk on the dark side of Clitheroe...

Simon_entwistle_2_2A tour with chilling ghost stories followed by a warming hot pot at one of Clitheroe's award winning restaurants sounded like the perfect excuse to brave the blustery September weather. So we grabbed our wellies and umbrellas and set off looking forward to an evening with a difference.

When we arrived at the Castle gates in Clitheroe the sun suddenly appeared for the first time that day and made the evening even more enjoyable. The event was set up as part of the Pennine Lancashire Festival of Food and Culture and ghost host and celebrated historian Simon Entwistle led this spooky tour around Clitheroe Castle and surrounding haunted streets.

Simon effortlessly invoked the creak of ghostly bones in the graveyard, the sounds of a child phantom who walks the night and the thrills of many other haunted places. We definitely needed a stiff drink and something to warm away the goosebumps afterwards. So off we all traipsed to Weezos, an award winning food haven which received a 'Taste Lancashire Highest Quality Assured' award and was also voted Les Routiers ‘Best in the North 2007.’ There we got served a delicious starter of crispy Lancashire Blackpudding from R.S. Ireland followed by a fabulous Lancashire Hot Pot which ensured a very happy ending to a thrilling, chilling evening.
