A Jali Towering Success

Monday lunch time saw me entering the opulent venue of the Jali restaurant in Blackpool as the team of highly skilled chefs attempted to break the world record for stacking poppadums.

Entering the restaurant we are greeted by the excited, but anxious front of house team who deftly escort us into the restaurant and ply us with drinks as we await the main event. The subtle aroma of indian spices can be smelt in the air and the venue is full of authentic indian artifacts.

 

Finally the chefs are prepared and, escorted by the head chef, enter the restaurant with piles of poppadoms which have been grilled to ensure they are flat ready for stacking. I don't know what you are envisioning but the actuallity of 288 poppadums stacked neatly on top of one another was not the great tower I was expecting, but was a lot trickier. The team of chefs spent almost an hour twisting and fiddling with the stack until they would stand on their own and I must admit at one point I didn't think they were going to make it! But make it they did and not only broke the stacking record but then went onto practically waltz around the restaurant with the stack to break the record for the tallest moveable tower of poppadums.

We were then treated to a selection of the delicious dishes available on the restaurants menu whilst we mulled over the lunchtime events.

Congratulations to all at the Jali for breaking the records and after my lunch I don't think it will be too long before I am booking a table to go back and sample some more of their menu.

The blog title refers to the Taste Lancashire campaign which is all about the the promotion of the distinctiveness and quality of food and drink in Lancashire. This includes the Taste Lancashire quality scheme, which the Jali Restaurant is a part of and foodie events such as this record-breaking attempt.
