Sunday 7th June was Open Farm Sunday. This national initiative is a fantastic opportunity for everyone, young and old to enjoy the living, vibrant countryside. Take time to listen to the birds, soak up the scenery, experience the smells of the farmyard and really get in touch with the land that feeds us. Discover at first hand what it means to be a farmer and taste the produce.
We went to one of the fantastic Lancashire farms that had thrown open it's doors for the day. It was hard to choose but we decided on Little Town Farm. Our decision was swayed by the fact that Little Town Dairy makes the most stunning ice-cream!
It was a fantastic afternoon which started with a warm welcome from the staff, plenty of great parking and a farm which was very accessible to families with prams. We started off watching the Donkey Derby (hilarious), moved on to look at all the animals (pigs, goats, ponies, lambs, chickens, turkeys etc) then on to the highlight of the day - the cows. We were really pleased to see such healthy and contented cows chomping away on their feeds waiting to be milked in the super clean 'shed'.
After all that it was time to chill out with a burger from the bbq, sample some of the lovely ice cream and check out the Farm Shop without spending a fortune! Finally some playtime in the childrens area before reluctantly making our way home.
Congratulations Little Town Farm for putting on a wonderful event and letting us explore your magnificent farm.

Little Town Dairy is really fabulous, we always call in on our way back from weddings at The Inn at Whitewell, their meat is superb and well worth filling your freezer with!
