Jason & the Argonauts in Williamson Park

Jason 3 Tuesday evening saw Anna and I heading up to Lancaster for the Dukes Promenade theatre production of Jason and the Argonauts in Williamson Park. The volatile British weather had turned from midsummer heat wave the week before to torrential down pours but that didn’t stop us theatre goers donning our cagoules and heading to the park for an evening of outdoor theatre.

Lancaster Lunch

Theborough I visited The Borough in Lancaster on Tuesday for lunch with an Irish journalist. I had fish & chips (Fleetwood fish battered to perfection) whilst the journalist had steak & ale pie, with a half of Hen Harrier ale. Great service and lovely food– well worth a visit if you are in Lancaster!

A Floral Feast in Garstang

Wyre_image_cart_2Not only does the area of Garstang have a reputation for serving up some of Lancashire's finest produce but it is also a twice Gold winner of Britain in Bloom and yesterday hosted a visit by the judges of the European equivalent - The Entente Florale!

Adrian and I joined the hard working horticulturalists of Garstang and the European judges at the Garstang Country Hotel & Golf club last night to celebrate the blooming achievement of this Lancashire village.

England's Golf Coast - The home of the Open

Lancashiregolf As part of the England's Golf Coast campaign I spent the day with colleagues from Liverpool, Southport and Fylde at the Open Golf championship in Royal Birkdale yesterday. The cold and unrelenting rain did not deter the fans (nor the majority of the golfers) from supporting the event and the England's Golf Coast stand became a welcoming beacon for many to shelter from the weather.

The Cheese Adventure

Creamy_cheese_trail_2In a tale that might well have been lifted straight from the pages of an Enid Blyton story, members of the LBTB team set off to explore the Creamy Lancashire Cheese Trail on a glorious evening in May. Starting from Chipping with sun beating down, this 4 mile 'jolly romp' took the team through some beautiful countryside - locally known as the 'milk fields' of Lancashire. We were soon joined by a plucky little dog who lead us over stiles (we nearly missed) and across open fields - we were now officially the Secret Seven!

Sunday Roast at The Craven Heifer

8craven_heifer Having my brother and his friend over from Sweden over the weekend I decided that their visit couldn't pass without a proper English Sunday Roast dinner. Living in the Ribble Valley I am very lucky to have a vast number of pubs serving excellent home cooked food on my doorstep - the only problem was choosing where to take them... After much deliberation we opted for the Craven Heifer at Chaigley, which sits in the foothill of Longridge Fell in the Forest of Bowland.

Cruising on the Lancaster Canal

Img_2045lancastercanalsmall Friday morning saw the start of the new season for the Packet Boat water bus on the Lancaster Canal. It was a wet and cold morning on the water but the welcome on board the canal boat was extremely warm! With an endless supply of food and hot tea we sat back and enjoyed the view.
